The future excites Michael so much, that is why he made this. We need to be inspired by the immense possibilities of the future and work extremely hard to achieve them. We can do it, we just have to commit.
For a wonderful new learning app, Kids Discover, Michael came up with an idea to show the most incredible thing that this app does... Hint, it's not what's on the screen.
With the power out in half of Manhattan, the city of New York became something entirely new. Drawn to the darkness, Jared Levy ans Michael set out to capture the feeling. Combining both of their experiences and Jared’s thoughts on what it was like, this piece came together over one weekend none of us will ever forget.
Commissioned by The Future of Storytelling Conference, this short film provides an introduction to Collaborative Storytelling: a tool to frame history as our experiences as humans become ever more intricate and complex. Featuring Jake Barton of Local Projects and interwoven interviews with individuals we encountered on the streets of New York, the film itself is told in a collaborative fashion. We were so taken with the candid, often surprising accounts of the people we interviewed, that we made a mini-project dedicated to their stories. See it here: storyus.net

We hit the streets of Brooklyn to ask people to thank their moms. It always amazing the real stories people have and how willing they are to tell them. Michael and his small team went up to anyone who would talk to him to get a great story about when their mothers helped them, then asked them to thank them. Oh, and Michael had to sneak himself in their to thank his mother.
If you’re not familiar with Mr Sagan, this is a great place to start. Filmed in the mountains of Utah and in Mexico, these timelapse images were set against the amazing words of Carl Sagan and an original composition by Michael.
The audio track was remixed with new visuals by the very talented Reid Gower for his Sagan Series, this piece is another example of looking into the future with optimism. Sagan lays it down best “For all our failings, we humans are capable of greatness.”

It takes some serious tech smarts to design a product that does all the cool stuff the Misfit Shine can do. To tell the story of their startup product, we took on the ethos of what CEO Sonny Vu calls “Thoughtful Simplicity.” Echoing that idea in every aspect of messaging and visual delivery, this Indiegogo project ended up working out pretty well for the Misfit team. The campaign ended up crowdfunding $846,438. These are some San Francisco tech wizards to keep an eye out for, they’re sure to be making cool stuff for years to come.

Are you doing what you love? Michael's friend Maneesh K. Goyal, of famed experiential design firm MKG, came to us with a vision of his new community and resource, Live in the Grey. A website to help people blend their work and play lives by providing information, inspiration and a support community, over here at Already Alive, living in the grey is exactly what we’re trying to do everyday. Taking that as our cue, we set out to make something that could get people excited about doing what they love. That’s kind of our thing.
Michael has been thinking of a new way to organize our blooming digital culture. By using the museum metaphor he was able to create a completely different kind of internet content experience.

Fourth of July 2011 was an amazing weekend of epic proportions. The jam band Phish played a 3 day long festival at Watkins Glen Racetrack in Upstate New York. Along with the amazing music, there were art installations carnival rides, late night sets and an awesome pinball arcade. Michael documented this momentous occasion in the same fashion as the last Phish festival he captured, using only stills.
